Change an assignment

Reassignment works for manager reviews and upward feedback. Self reviews and peer feedback do not support it.
  • Manager review: Changes the person who writes the review.
  • Upward feedback: Changes the manager who receives the feedback.
1

Open the review

In a stage’s To-dos, open the review and select Reassign in To-do Details.
2

Choose the new person

Select the New reviewer for a manager review, or the New manager being reviewed for upward feedback. The new person can be any active workspace member.
3

Choose whether to transfer answers

For a manager review, select Transfer submitted answers if the new reviewer should start from the previous manager’s answers. See Transfer submitted answers.
4

Confirm the reassignment

Read the list of changes in the dialog. Select I understand this reassignment., then confirm.
The stage and deadline must be open. Reassignment updates the saved cycle manager, but it does not change the org chart. An org chart change does not update the saved cycle manager. To move an employee to a new manager during a cycle, reassign their manager review.

Transfer submitted answers

Transfer submitted answers is available only for manager reviews. It is off by default. The option appears only when the previous manager submitted answers. You cannot use it when the review is locked or already shared. Without transfer, sharing is turned off for that review. If the employee could see the review, they lose access. Upward feedback cannot be transferred. The new manager does not get the feedback about the previous manager.

Former reviewer access

The former reviewer loses the task and editing access. Their answers are archived. If you reassign the work back to them, Windmill restores their draft or submitted answers. Their Windy chat is archived only when it has no other active reviews. Separate access to read review data can still apply through their other roles or reporting relationships.

Give access to an additional manager

Reassignment transfers ownership; it does not add a co-editor. The active-cycle pages do not provide a way to add a supplemental manager reviewer after launch. A supplemental manager review, where one exists, is separate from the primary review. It does not change the primary reviewer or shared packet. Reading a packet and owning its review are separate. See manager access when someone needs to read results.
