Your org chart stores the employee roster and reporting structure. It defines manager scope for supported team workflows.

How org chart data flows

If you have an HRIS connected Your org chart automatically pulls from your connected HR system. Windmill syncs employee names, emails, and reporting structures directly from your HRIS. Any updates you make in your HRIS will reflect in Windmill within 24 hours. If you don’t have an HRIS You’ll need to build your org chart manually in Windmill. Our team can assist with this initial setup. Reach out via your shared Slack channel or email support@gowindmill.com.
The org chart is one part of access control. Roles, delegation, source permissions, and feature-specific privacy rules also apply. See Permissions and Access.

Viewing your team

As an Admin, navigate to Settings > Org Chart to see all employees in your system. This list is pulled from your connected integrations (Google, Slack, HRIS). HR Admins can also open Settings > Org Chart. An employee can appear in the org chart without having member access.

Managing your org chart

You can edit manually managed employee information, update managers, and make bulk manager changes in Settings > Org Chart.
If you have an HRIS connected, don’t edit your org chart manually in Windmill. Make changes in your HRIS instead—they’ll sync automatically and won’t be overwritten.
For complete org chart management instructions, see Managing Your Org Chart. Use Groups when you need employee segments that do not change the reporting structure.

Next steps

Once your org chart is set up and key team members are invited, you’re ready to put Windmill to work by activating your first features.
