Your org chart is the foundation of Windmill. It determines who can see what information and ensures managers have access to their direct reports’ data.
How org chart data flows
If you have an HRIS connected Your org chart automatically pulls from your connected HR system. Windmill syncs employee names, emails, and reporting structures directly from your HRIS. Any updates you make in your HRIS will reflect in Windmill within 24 hours.
If you don’t have an HRIS You’ll need to build your org chart manually in Windmill. Our team can assist with this initial setup. Reach out via your shared Slack channel or email support@gowindmill.com.
Your org chart must be up to date for Windmill to work properly. Only a team member’s manager (and higher-level managers) will have access to their data in Windmill.
Viewing your team
As an Admin, navigate to Settings > Org Chart to see all employees in your system. This list is pulled from your connected integrations (Google, Slack, HRIS).
Managing your org chart
You can edit employee information, update managers, and make bulk changes to your org chart in Settings > Org Chart. Changes take effect immediately.
If you have an HRIS connected, don’t edit your org chart manually in Windmill. Make changes in your HRIS instead—they’ll sync automatically and won’t be overwritten.
