Shoutouts let your team recognize positive contributions in a public Slack channel. A person can create a Shoutout directly in Slack. Windy can also offer to convert positive feedback to a Shoutout after the author gives explicit consent.

Set up Shoutouts

You must be an Admin or HR Admin. Your company must have an active Slack integration.

Open Shoutouts settings

Go to Settings > Shoutouts.

Enable Shoutouts

Turn on Shoutouts for your company.

Select a Slack channel

Select the public Slack channel where Windmill will post Shoutouts.

Create a Shoutout in Slack

You can create a Shoutout from a Slack message or with a slash command.

Start the Shoutout

Right-click a Slack message and select Create a shoutout. You can also enter /shoutout in Slack.

Write the message

Describe the work that you want to recognize.

Select employees

Select one or more people to recognize.

Send the Shoutout

Submit the form. Windmill saves the Shoutout and shares it with your team.

Convert positive feedback to a Shoutout

Windy can offer to convert feedback when all the following conditions apply:
  • The feedback contains only praise or positive recognition.
  • The feedback does not contain constructive or sensitive information.
  • The feedback is suitable for a public channel.
If the feedback qualifies, Windy asks the author for permission to share it. Creating a Shoutout makes its linked feedback public, regardless of the earlier audience selection. Windy includes this audience in the final confirmation. Feedback linked to a delivered Shoutout cannot be edited or deleted. See Edit or delete feedback.
Describe a specific action and its effect. This makes the Shoutout useful to the person and to the team.

Recognition from Bonusly

If your company uses Bonusly, you can import its public peer recognition into Windmill. Imported recognition appears as public feedback, labeled Recognition. Use the Source filter in the Shoutouts tab to show only Bonusly recognition. See Bonusly.

Delivery time

A Shoutout can take several hours to appear in the selected Slack channel. Windmill processes and queues the message before it posts the Shoutout.
