Benefits of connecting Bonusly to Windmill

Connecting Bonusly to Windmill brings the recognition your team already gives each other into Windmill. Managers see the praise that colleagues give, without a separate tool or a manual copy.
  • Public Bonusly recognition appears as feedback in Windmill, labeled Recognition
  • Each person who receives a bonus gets their own entry, linked to their profile
  • Add-ons to a bonus show with the original bonus
  • Everyone can see peer recognition in one place, next to other feedback
  • Recent edits and deletions in Bonusly carry over, so Windmill stays accurate
Bonusly is in beta. The integration is read-only and imports recognition only. Windmill turns on the recognition views for each company as the beta rolls out. If you connect Bonusly and cannot find the recognition, contact Windmill support.

How to connect Bonusly

You must be an Admin, HR Admin, or Integration Manager to connect Bonusly. A company has one Bonusly connection.
1

Create an API token in Bonusly

In Bonusly, create an API token for Windmill. Give the token only the recognition:read scope. Windmill needs no other access.
2

Open the Connect Bonusly page in Windmill

In Windmill, open the Connect Bonusly page. Bonusly is in beta, so it may not appear in the list on Settings > Integrations yet.
3

Paste your API token and connect

Paste the token into the Enter your Bonusly API token field and click Connect. Windmill checks the token with Bonusly before it saves the connection.
If Windmill cannot validate the token, it shows the message “Bonusly could not validate this API token. Check the token and try again.” Check that you copied the full token and that the token is still active in Bonusly.
Connecting Bonusly does not import past recognition. Windmill reads new bonuses and recent changes only. Bonuses that people gave more than a day or so before you connected do not appear.

Connected data

When Bonusly is connected, Windmill securely reads the following information: Windmill does not import Bonusly points, rewards, or balances. Windmill removes the points that Bonusly adds to the start or end of a message, such as +10, so only the message remains.

How recognition appears in Windmill

Windmill creates one feedback entry for each person who receives a bonus. If one bonus recognizes three people, each person gets an entry. The entries are grouped, so the bonus shows as one message with all of its recipients.
  • Audience: Public. Anyone in your company can see Bonusly recognition.
  • Label: Recognition.
  • Source: The feedback shows on Bonusly next to the author’s name.
  • Private bonuses: Windmill does not import private bonuses.
  • Add-ons: An add-on shows as a reply to the original bonus.
  • Editing: Nobody can edit or delete this feedback in Windmill. Bonusly owns the text. Make changes in Bonusly.
To find the recognition, open Feedback. The recognition appears in Team feed. In the Shoutouts tab, use the Source filter and select Bonusly to show only Bonusly recognition. See Shoutouts and Find and manage feedback.

Employee matching

Windmill matches each Bonusly person to a Windmill employee by email address. The email address in Bonusly must match the email address on the employee profile.
  • Windmill imports a bonus only when the giver matches an employee. This keeps automated Bonusly posts out of Windmill, such as birthday and anniversary celebrations and awards.
  • Windmill creates an entry for a recipient only when the recipient matches an employee. Recipients that do not match are skipped.
  • If a person does not match, check their email address in Bonusly and in Windmill. Admins can also review the matches in Settings > Integration Mappings.

Sync schedule

Windmill syncs Bonusly automatically. You do not need to refresh the data. When someone deletes a bonus, an add-on, or a recipient in Bonusly, Windmill archives the matching feedback on a later sync. Windmill checks only the last 14 days, so a deletion of an older bonus does not carry over. For more information about sync timing, see Data Sync and Freshness.

Permissions

Windmill requests read-only access through Bonusly’s API.
