Company Values are the core principles that guide your organization, such as Customer Focus, Innovation, or Collaboration. Windmill uses your values to keep shoutouts and performance reviews grounded in the culture you’re building.
Windy uses your values in performance reviews, and Windmill tags shoutouts with the values they reflect.

Setting up your company values

1

Open Company values

Go to Settings → Company values in the Windmill Dashboard.
2

Start adding values

If you haven’t set any values yet, click Set company values to open the editor.
3

Add a value

Enter the name of the value (e.g., Customer First) and a short description of what living it looks like (e.g., We prioritize responsiveness, reliability, and tailored service for every client, no matter the size).
4

Add the rest of your values

Click Add Value for each additional core value. To remove a value, click Remove Value.
5

Save

Click Save company values to apply your changes. Each value must have a unique name.
Limit yourself to 3–5 core values. Too many values dilute focus and make them harder to remember and reinforce.

Where values are used

Your company values appear in these parts of Windmill:
  • Performance reviews: Windy uses your values as context in self, upward, and manager review chats, and in manager review suggestions and drafts
  • Shoutouts: When a shoutout is posted to Slack, Windmill tags it with the values it reflects, such as #Innovation
This keeps reviews and recognition aligned with what matters most to your organization.

Best practices

Keep values short and clear Use action-oriented language that’s easy to understand and remember. Make expectations tangible Write descriptions that show what living this value looks like in practice. Review regularly Periodically revisit your values to make sure they still reflect your team’s evolving culture.

We recommend 3–5 core values. This keeps them memorable and actionable. Too many values dilute their impact and make them harder to reinforce consistently.
Only Admins and HR Admins can manage company values, along with Company info and Company Knowledge. This keeps your organization’s core identity consistent.
Company values now live on their own Company values page (Settings → Company values). Company Knowledge is now a document library for the reference material you want Windy to draw on, while your name, description, and logo live on the Company info page.
