What Insights shows
Windmill adapts each insight to the question type:- Text questions — Generate an AI summary of recurring themes, sentiment, and notable patterns. You can also open the underlying responses when your review access allows it. Windmill only generates a summary when there are enough responses to protect confidentiality.
- Rating, scale, and numeric questions — Compare the distribution of answers and review statistics such as the average. Numeric questions can also show the median, minimum, and maximum.
- Single-select, multi-select, and yes/no questions — Compare how often each option was selected.
- Net Promoter Score (NPS) questions — Review the score and its promoter, passive, and detractor breakdown.
Where to find Insights
The responses you can analyze depend on where you open Insights and your access to the cycle.
Use the stage selector to move between self, peer, upward, and manager-review questions. Filters let you narrow cycle and calibration results to a department, team, manager, or other employee group within your access.
Insights never gives you access to feedback written about you. Manager results are limited to their reporting hierarchy, and calibration results are limited to that calibration’s reviewees. See Who sees what for the complete visibility rules.
Manager and cycle admin insights
The cycle-level Insights tabs summarize both response distributions and stage activity. Managers see results for their reporting hierarchy, while cycle admins can analyze the full cycle. Manager-stage Insights also shows how many employees are in calibration and how many ratings have been adjusted. Calibration itself is analyzed separately inside each calibration session.Insights in a review packet
When an employee has multiple peer or upward responses, their review packet opens to an aggregate Insights view for that feedback type. Switch to Responses to read each submission individually. If only one response was submitted, Windmill shows that response directly instead of creating an aggregate.Calibration insights
Inside a calibration session, Insights compares each supported question’s initial manager-review distribution with the distribution after the session’s proposed changes. It also summarizes reviewees, ratings changed, the average rating shift, comments, and contributors. Text responses aren’t included in calibration comparisons. Open the manager-review stage or an individual review packet to analyze those responses. Learn more about calibration views.Add a target distribution
Target distributions add a reference line to column charts and graphs so you can compare actual answers with an expected shape. They are available anywhere those chart types appear, including cycle, review-packet, and calibration Insights. Open Target on an insight card and choose:- Even — Splits the target evenly across every answer option
- Bell — Centers the target around the middle options
- Top heavy — Places more of the target in the higher answer options
- Custom — Lets you set the target percentage for each option
- Off — Removes the target line
