The AI Adoption report answers the questions every leadership team is asking right now: Are people actually using AI? Who is, who isn’t, and is adoption growing? AI Adoption pulls usage signals from the AI tools you connect to Windmill and turns them into adoption rates, trend charts, and per-employee activity. No manual reporting from your IT team required.Documentation Index

Connecting Claude, Codex, or Cursor to Windmill requires an enterprise plan on each of those tools. The integrations use admin-level APIs that the AI providers only expose to enterprise customers — Pro, Team, and Free plans can’t be connected.
Supported AI tools
AI Adoption currently reports on three AI tools:- Claude — Claude chat, Code, Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and Cowork activity
- Codex — Codex threads, turns, and token usage
- Cursor — Cursor messages, agent edits, Tab completions, Skills, and MCP usage
Claude usage is reported by Anthropic on a 3-day delay, so the most recent 3 days of Claude data may be incomplete. The report shows a callout at the top whenever Claude is connected.
What you’ll see
Summary cards
Two headline numbers at the top:- Adoption rate — The percentage of employees in scope who used any connected AI tool during the selected date range, shown as
X of Y employees used AI. - Weekly active — The number of employees who used an AI tool in the most recent complete week of the date range.
Weekly AI Adoption Trend
A trend chart showing weekly unique AI users across all connected tools. The chart overlays:- A blue area for total AI Active Users per week
- A dashed gray line for the total scoped employee count (so you can see active users relative to the size of your population)
- A line per connected integration showing weekly active users for that tool specifically
AI Feature Usage
A scrollable list showing how many unique employees used each AI capability during the selected range. Each row shows the capability name, the employee count, and the percentage of scoped employees — with a progress bar for quick visual comparison. Each employee is counted once per capability for the entire date range (not per week), and a capability is counted as used whenever at least one positive usage event is observed. Click any row to open a side panel listing the exact employees who used that capability. The capabilities shown depend on which AI integrations you have connected:- Claude — Claude chat, Claude Code, Claude connectors, Claude artifacts, Claude skills, and Claude in Excel / PowerPoint / Word / Cowork
- Cursor — Cursor Ask, Cursor Tab, Cursor agent edits, Cursor plan, Cursor messages, Cursor MCP tools, and Cursor skills
- Codex — Codex threads and Codex turns
When Claude is the only AI integration connected, the labels drop the “Claude” prefix (so you’ll see “Chat messages”, “Excel”, “PowerPoint”, etc. instead of “Claude chat”, “Claude in Excel”). With multiple AI tools connected, every label is namespaced so you can tell capabilities apart at a glance.
Active AI Users Over Time
A line chart with three series — Daily, Weekly, and Monthly active users — computed as rolling counts across all connected AI tools. Hovering shows a tooltip with the per-integration breakdown for each rolling window:- DAU — active on that specific day
- WAU — active any time in the trailing 7 days
- MAU — active any time in the trailing 30 days
Employee AI Usage
A sortable table with one row per employee in scope, showing their AI Active Days in the selected range plus stat columns for each connected integration:- Claude columns include chat messages, conversations, artifacts, Code commits and lines, connectors and skills, and Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Cowork) sessions and messages.
- Codex columns include threads, turns, credits, and input/output tokens.
- Cursor columns include messages sent, agent edits accepted, lines added/deleted, Tab completions, Ask mode messages, Plan messages, Skills, and MCP tool usage.
Filters and date range
Use the Employee filter to scope the report — for example, to see adoption in Engineering, by manager, or by department. Use the Date range picker (default: last 12 weeks) to change the window. The report only includes active members — archived employees and people without a Windmill member account are excluded.Empty states
If the report has nothing to show, you’ll see one of:- No AI integrations connected — None of Claude, Codex, or Cursor are connected. Connect one from the Integrations page.
- No employees match these filters — The employee filter excluded everyone. Loosen the filter.
- No AI activity in this date range — Integrations are connected but no employees had any AI activity in the window. Try a wider date range.
FAQs
Are ChatGPT, Copilot, or Gemini included?
Are ChatGPT, Copilot, or Gemini included?
No. AI Adoption currently reports on Claude, Codex, and Cursor only.
Why does my Claude data look incomplete for the last few days?
Why does my Claude data look incomplete for the last few days?
Anthropic publishes Claude usage data on a 3-day delay. That’s a limitation of the underlying API — the data isn’t missing, it just hasn’t been reported yet. It’ll fill in over the next few days. Codex and Cursor are not subject to this delay.
What counts as 'active'?
What counts as 'active'?
Any tracked activity in a connected integration. For Claude, that includes chat messages, Code activity (commits, edits, lines, sessions), Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Cowork sessions, connectors, and skills. For Codex, threads and turns. For Cursor, messages sent, agent edits, Tab completions, Ask mode messages, Skills, and MCP usage. If an employee has any of those in a day, they count as active for that day.
Why is an employee missing from the report?
Why is an employee missing from the report?
AI Adoption only includes active members — people who have a Windmill member account and haven’t been archived. Employees in your org chart who aren’t members don’t appear. If they should be members, invite them from Members.
Can I export this data?
Can I export this data?
The AI Adoption report doesn’t have its own export button. If you need raw data, use the Explore report — you can select any AI stats, scope to the same employees, and export to CSV.
