The expiration sets how long participants have to respond to each run. The countdown starts at the run’s scheduled send time. When the expiration passes, the run closes.

Who can change expiration

Owners with edit access can change the expiration after launch. You can change it on an active, paused, or completed pulse. You cannot change it on an archived pulse.

Change the expiration

1

Open the Expiration setting

Open the pulse and select the Settings tab. Select edit on Expiration.
2

Choose a new duration

In Edit expiration, choose a duration in Expire after. The shortest option is 1 hour. You can also choose No expiration.
3

Choose runs to update (optional)

To change runs you already sent, select Choose existing runs to update, then select Next. In Select runs, select the runs to update. Switch between Current runs and All runs to include closed runs. You can also choose specific responses in a run.
4

Review the change

Select Review changes. Review expiration change shows the old and new default expiration, and the runs and responses you selected.
5

Save

Select Update expiration.

What changes

  • Future runs: The new duration becomes the default expiration for all later runs.
  • Existing runs: If you do not select runs, existing responses keep their current expiration.
  • Selected runs: The new expiration applies to the runs and responses you selected. The new deadline cannot be in the past. If it is, choose a longer duration or No expiration.

Reopen a closed run

If you extend a run that already closed, the run opens again with the new deadline. If the pulse is a completed one-time pulse, it becomes active again. A paused pulse stays paused.

Participant notice

Respondents who have not submitted get a Slack message about the new deadline. Windy sends it 5 minutes after your last change, so several quick edits send only one message.

Other places that set expiration

Send again and Edit schedule also set the default expiration for later runs. To change runs you already sent, use Edit expiration. See Send again, pause, and resume and Expiration and deadlines.
