Renaming Accomplishments to Recaps
Overview
We're updating the name of the Windy routine from "Accomplishments" to "Recaps." This change aims to better reflect what the feature is truly designed to do: provide a lightweight summary of what each team member has been focused on during the week.
Why the Change?
The term "accomplishment" caused confusion. Many users interpreted it as referring only to completed, significant work. That led to underreporting of important in-progress efforts or smaller—but still valuable—tasks. We chose the name "Recap" because it more accurately captures the feature's purpose: summarizing where time was spent, regardless of whether the work is finished.
What’s Different?
There’s no real change in functionality. Here’s what’s been updated:
UI Update: We’ve replaced checkmarks with bullet points to remove the impression that everything listed is complete.
Prompt Tweak: The AI prompt is now worded to encourage a more comprehensive summary, not just final deliverables.
Name: Everywhere you previously saw "Accomplishments," you’ll now see "Recap."
What’s the Same?
You still get a weekly draft generated by Windy, based on activity in apps like Jira, Slack, and Salesforce.
You can still review and edit your recap before it’s finalized.
Managers still receive summaries of their team’s recaps.
You can still use recaps in the same way as you were using accomplishments previously.
FAQs
Why did Windmill change the name from “Accomplishments” to “Recap”? We heard from users that the term “accomplishment” was too strong and created confusion. It made people focus only on completed, high-impact work—even if they spent a lot of time on other valuable tasks. “Recap” better reflects what the system actually does: provide a comprehensive summary of where your time went.
What’s the difference between a “recap” and an “accomplishment”? Functionally, there’s no real difference. We’ve renamed the feature to better match how it works. It’s still the same tool—just with a new name and some small UI updates.
Does this change affect how the system works? Only slightly. The underlying functionality is the same. We replaced checkmarks with bullet points in the UI to reduce the sense of “completion,” and we’ve updated the prompt to encourage a more comprehensive summary of your work. Otherwise, everything works the same.
Can I still use this as a brag doc or for performance reviews? Yes. Recaps are still useful for reflecting on your progress, showcasing your impact, and preparing for performance reviews. Nothing about the purpose or value of the feature has changed.
What kinds of items will now appear in my weekly recap? Anything you spent meaningful time on—projects in progress, meetings, written contributions, planning, etc.—even if the work isn’t fully done.
Can I still edit or approve my recap before it’s shared with my manager? Yes. Just like before, you’ll get a draft each week that you can review and make changes to before it’s finalized.
How will managers see recaps for their team? Managers will receive a summary report with links to each team member’s individual recap, just like they did with accomplishments.
Why was the checkmark icon removed? We removed it to reduce confusion. A checkmark made it seem like all items were complete. A bullet point better reflects that the item is something you spent time on—regardless of whether it’s finished.
Will past accomplishments still be available, or are they now called recaps retroactively? They’re still available in the system, and we’ll be updating the label to “recap” for consistency. The underlying data hasn’t changed.
