# Roam

> Connect Roam to Windmill so meeting recordings, chats, and collaboration signals flow into 1:1s, recaps, review context, and Windy.

## Benefits of connecting Roam to Windmill

Connecting Roam to Windmill gives your 1:1s, recaps, and performance reviews richer context about both the work people do in meetings and how your team collaborates day-to-day. Windmill syncs:

* **Meeting recordings and transcripts** — so what was discussed in a Roam meeting can show up on the matching 1:1, feed [Catch Me Up](/features/1-on-1s/catch-me-up), and be searched by Windy
* **Chats** — text from Roam rooms and channels, used as context for Windy and reviews
* **Collaboration signals** — presence, room sessions, ritual attendance, and similar — so reviews reflect *how* work happened, not just outputs

This means reviews don’t just reflect *outputs* — they reflect **how work happened**.

## Connected data

Windmill syncs the following from Roam:

| Shared Room Sessions             | Collaboration signals (who worked alongside whom)                                   |
| Office / Team Ritual Attendance  | Standups, all-hands, onboarding sessions, etc.                                      |
| Social / Lounge Engagement       | Light signals of connection and team culture participation                          |

**What is *not* synced:**

* **Audio or video** — Windmill stores transcripts only; raw recordings stay in Roam.
* **Private one-to-one DMs** — only room/channel chats Windmill has access to via the integration are synced.

## Permissions

To enable the integration, the connecting user must be:

* A **Roam Workspace Admin**, and
* Have access to the **Organization Admin Dashboard**

The integration is read-only and uses a secure OAuth token. Windmill never accesses or stores call audio or video — only the transcript text.

## How this improves performance reviews

Windmill uses Roam signals to:

* Help managers remember *how people contributed across the year*
* Recognize collaboration and support that isn’t documented
* Provide context in 1:1s and review drafts
* Highlight teammates who help others, mentor, or elevate the team

This ensures performance reviews reflect **both impact and presence**, not just deliverables.

## Managing org changes

If you need to update:

* Teams / Spaces
* Room ownership
* Workspace membership

> **Make those changes in Roam.**

Windmill treats Roam as the source of truth for workspace presence and collaboration signals.\
Edits made directly in Windmill will be overwritten on the next sync.
