# Paylocity

> Connect Paylocity to Windmill to sync employees, managers, departments, and employment data so your org chart and access controls stay accurate automatically.

## Benefits of connecting Paylocity to Windmill

Connecting Paylocity to Windmill keeps your employee roster and reporting structure accurate without manual updates. When Paylocity is the system of record, Windmill automatically:

* Imports new hires when they join
* Updates manager → direct report relationships
* Reflects title, department, and team changes
* Archives employees when they leave the company

This ensures performance reviews, 1:1s, and feedback always match your **current team**, without HR needing to maintain two separate systems.

## Connected data

Windmill syncs the following fields from Paylocity:

| Job Title                               | Displayed in profiles and review cycles                    |

| Department / Team                       | Used for grouping and reporting in Windmill                |
| Employment Status (Active / Terminated) | Automatically archives former employees                    |
| Start Date                              | Supports onboarding experiences and new-hire review timing |
| Gender                                  | Synced if provided by Paylocity                            |

**Windmill does not sync compensation, payroll, benefits, home address, Social Security Numbers, dates of birth, phone numbers, pronouns, or employment contracts.** See [Personally Identifiable Information](/security/pii) for the canonical list of fields Windmill collects.

## Permissions

To enable the connection, the connecting user must have:

* **Paylocity Admin** permissions
* Access to the **Employee Directory** and **Org Chart** data

The integration is authorized through a secure token connection.\
Windmill has **read-only** access and **does not write data back** to Paylocity.

## Managing employee + manager updates

If you need to:

* Change someone’s manager
* Update a title or department
* Offboard an employee

> **Make these changes in Paylocity — not in Windmill.**

Paylocity is the **source of truth**.\
Any updates made directly in Windmill will be **overwritten** the next time the sync runs.
