# Justworks

> Connect Justworks to Windmill to sync employees, managers, departments, and employment data so your org chart and access controls stay accurate automatically.

## Benefits of connecting Justworks to Windmill

Connecting Justworks to Windmill keeps your employee roster and reporting structure aligned automatically. When Justworks is the system of record, Windmill will:

* Import new hires as soon as they are added to Justworks
* Update manager → direct report relationships
* Reflect title and department updates
* Archive employees when they leave the company

This ensures performance reviews, 1:1s, and feedback always reflect the **current org**, without duplicate data entry or manual cleanup.

## Connected data

Windmill syncs the following fields from Justworks:

| Employee Name                           | Full legal name                                   |
| Work Email                              | Used as the identity + login field                |
| Job Title                               | Displayed across profiles and review cycles       |
| Manager Relationship                    | Drives org charts and review assignments          |
| Department / Team                       | Used for grouping, permissions, and reporting     |
| Employment Status (Active / Terminated) | Automatically archives former employees           |
| Start Date                              | Supports onboarding and new-hire review workflows |
| Gender                                  | Synced if provided by Justworks                   |

**Windmill does not sync compensation, payroll, benefits, home address, Social Security Numbers, dates of birth, phone numbers, pronouns, or employment contracts.** See [Personally Identifiable Information](/security/pii) for the canonical list of fields Windmill collects.

## Permissions

To connect the integration, the user must have:

* **Justworks Admin** permissions
* Access to view the **People → Team** directory

The integration uses a secure OAuth token handshake.\
**Windmill is read-only** and does not modify or write data back to Justworks.

## Managing employee + manager updates

If you need to:

* Change someone’s manager
* Update a department
* Promote or change a title
* Remove or offboard an employee

> **Make these changes in Justworks — not Windmill.**

Justworks is treated as the **source of truth**.\
Any updates made directly inside Windmill will be **overwritten** during the next sync.
