# BambooHR

> Connect BambooHR to Windmill to sync employees, managers, departments, and employment data so your org chart and access controls stay accurate automatically.

## Benefits of connecting BambooHR to Windmill

Connecting BambooHR to Windmill ensures your employee data stays accurate and up to date — without manual spreadsheet uploads or duplicate entry across systems.

Windmill uses BambooHR data to power performance reviews, 1:1s, and team health insights with accurate org context.

## Connected data

When BambooHR is connected, Windmill securely syncs the following data fields:

| Employee Name, Email, Status            | Creates and maintains employee profiles in Windmill            |
| Job Title & Department                  | Groups employees by teams for reviews, reporting, and insights |
| Manager Relationships                   | Ensures the right manager sees and completes the right reviews |
| Hire Dates                              | Supports tenure-aware prompts and performance cycle logic      |
| Employment Status (active / terminated) | Automatically archives employees in Windmill when they leave   |
| Gender                                  | Synced if provided by BambooHR                                 |

**Windmill does not sync compensation, payroll, benefits, home address, Social Security Numbers, dates of birth, phone numbers, pronouns, or employment contracts.** See [Personally Identifiable Information](/security/pii) for the canonical list of fields Windmill collects.

> BambooHR remains the **source of truth**. Windmill reflects what is stored there.

## Permissions

Windmill requests **read-only** access to your BambooHR directory and org chart.

| Permission                       | Purpose                                                      |
| -------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Read employee directory          | To create and maintain accurate employee profiles            |
| Read org chart / manager fields  | To ensure reviews, 1:1s, and workflows route correctly       |
| Read job and department metadata | To group employees logically for review cycles and reporting |
| **No write access**              | Windmill never modifies employee data inside BambooHR        |

> Access is scoped to only the fields required for org structure and performance workflows.

## Source of truth

If you want to **update an employee’s manager**, **change a title**, or **archive an employee**,\
you’ll need to make that change **in BambooHR**.

Any changes made directly inside Windmill will be **overridden** the next time BambooHR syncs.

**In other words:**\
*BambooHR controls employee data. Windmill reflects it.*

## Sync timing

Changes from BambooHR can take up to a day to appear in Windmill.
