# Test a pulse

> Send a pulse only to yourself to check the experience before you launch it.

Send yourself a test pulse to see what participants will get. Use it to check the questions, the order, and the Windy chat before anyone else receives the pulse.

## Send a test pulse

    Open [Pulse surveys](https://app.gowindmill.com/COMPANY/pulse), select **Manage pulses**, and open the pulse.

    At the top of the pulse page, find **Want to preview first?** and select **Test pulse**. Only owners see this option.

  <Step title="Send the test">
    In the **Test pulse** dialog, select **Send test**. Windy reaches out to you shortly.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Respond as a participant">
    Answer the questions in your chat with Windy or in Windmill. Check each question, the required questions, and the text that Windy shows.

## What a test does

* **Only you receive it.** Windmill does not send the test to the participants that you selected.
* **It is marked as a test.** After launch, test runs show a **Test** label in the pulse's **Runs** tab.
* **It does not launch the pulse.** The pulse stays a draft until you select **Launch Pulse**.

If you find a problem, edit the questions or settings and send another test. See [Questions and question types](/features/pulse-surveys/questions-and-question-types).

## Test before you launch

**Test pulse** is available only while the pulse is a draft. After you send, schedule, or pause the pulse, the test option is no longer shown.

To test a pulse that is already launched, duplicate it. The duplicate is a new draft, so you can test it:

    Open the pulse, select **Pulse actions**, then **Duplicate pulse**. Enter a name and select **Duplicate**.

    The duplicate opens as a draft. Select **Test pulse** at the top of its page.
