# Send again, pause, and resume

> Send a new run of a pulse, stop its schedule, and start the schedule again.

Use the banner at the top of the pulse to send a new run or stop future runs. Only owners with edit access see these actions.

## Send a pulse again

Send a new run when you want responses now, without waiting for the schedule.

    Select **Send again** on the **Running** or **Manual pulse** banner. On the **Pulse on a Schedule** banner, select **Send now**.

    All current participants are selected. Clear anyone you do not want to include. People who got a run less than 6 hours ago show **Ran less than 6 hours ago.** Clear them if you do not want to send them a second run so soon.

    Select how long participants have to respond. An expiration is required.

    Check the **Review** step, then select **Send now**.

The expiration you choose also becomes the pulse's default expiration for later runs. See [Change expiration](/features/pulse-surveys/change-expiration).

## Pause future runs

Pausing stops the schedule. It does not close or change runs that are already open. Participants can still respond until those runs expire.

This action removes the schedule. The pulse becomes a manual pulse and sends only when you select **Send again**. Open runs still get automatic reminders, and you can still nudge.

## Resume a schedule

To start sending on a schedule again, open **Settings** and select edit on **Schedule**. In **Edit schedule**, choose a schedule type and settings, then select **Confirm**. See [Scheduling types](/features/pulse-surveys/scheduling-types).

## Paused status

If you ask Windy to pause a pulse, the pulse gets the **Paused** status. The banner shows ***Pulse name* is paused**. This is different from the pause actions on the banners:

* The pulse keeps its schedule, but does not send new runs.
* Open runs stay open, and participants can still respond.
* Windy does not send automatic reminders for open runs, and you cannot nudge.

Select **Unpause pulse** to make the pulse active again. It then runs on its saved schedule, and reminders start again.

## Edit the schedule

Select **Edit schedule** on the **Pulse on a Schedule** banner, or edit **Schedule** in **Settings**. You can change the schedule type, timing, and the expiration for future runs.

You cannot edit the schedule of a completed or archived pulse, or of a one-time pulse that was already sent.

## Close a run

There is no button to close a run. A run closes when its expiration passes. A one-time pulse with an expiration completes on its own after its run closes.

To close a run sooner, choose a shorter expiration for that run. See [Change expiration](/features/pulse-surveys/change-expiration).
