# Manage a pulse

> Check a pulse's status and find the correct workflow to send, pause, edit, or clean up a pulse.

Open a pulse from [Pulse surveys](https://app.gowindmill.com/COMPANY/pulse) to manage it. Only owners with edit access can make changes. Other people see **Read only access** and can only view responses.

## Pulse statuses

| Status | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **Draft** | You created the pulse, but did not launch it. Nothing was sent. |
| **Scheduled** | The pulse has a schedule and will send again. |
| **Running** | A run was sent and its expiration has not passed. |
| **Sent** | All runs expired and nothing is scheduled. The pulse stays open. You can edit it and send it again. |
| **Paused** | Windy paused the pulse at your request. It does not send or remind until you unpause it. |
| **Completed** | A pulse with a one-time schedule whose run expired. The pulse is closed. You can only view its responses. |
| **Archived** | You deleted the pulse. It no longer shows in Pulse lists. |

**Sent** and **Completed** both mean that no run is open. The difference is what you can do next. A pulse that you send with **Send now** changes to **Sent**, so you can send it again later. A pulse with a one-time schedule changes to **Completed**, and it does not send again.

## Pulse tabs

Before launch, the pulse has **Launch**, **Questions**, **Participants**, and **Settings** tabs.

After launch, the pulse has **Responses**, **Insights**, **Questions**, **Runs**, **Participants**, and **Settings** tabs. The **Windy chat** panel beside the tabs lets you ask Windy about the pulse.

## Status banners

A banner at the top of the pulse shows its state and the actions you can take.

| Banner | Actions |
| - | - |
| **Want to preview first?** | **Test pulse** (before launch only) |
| **Running** | **Send again**, and **Pause future runs** if the pulse is on a schedule |
| **Pulse on a Schedule** | **Edit schedule**, **Pause pulse**, **Send now** |
| **Manual pulse** | **Send again** |
| ***Pulse name* is paused** | **Unpause pulse** |
| ***Pulse name* is completed** | **View responses** |

## Send, pause, or resume a pulse

Send a new run at any time, or stop the schedule without closing open runs. There is no button to close a run. A run closes when its expiration passes.

## Edit a pulse after launch

You can change questions, participants, and most settings. Question changes apply to the next run. You cannot change anonymity.

## Extend or shorten a deadline

Change the default expiration for future runs. You can also select open or closed runs to update.

## Remind people who have not responded

Windy sends [automatic reminders](/features/pulse-surveys/reminders). You can also send a manual nudge on a named pulse.

## Share access to the pulse

Add co-owners, change who the pulse comes from, or share results with other people.

## Reuse or remove a pulse

Duplicate a pulse to run it again with a new setup or to test it again. Delete a pulse to remove it from Pulse lists and stop future runs.
