# Live response streaming

> Post each pulse response to a Slack channel as soon as someone submits it.

Live response streaming posts each submitted response to a Slack channel. Your team can follow answers as they arrive, without opening Windmill.

Streaming is available only for named pulses. The **Live response streaming** section doesn't appear on anonymous pulses.

## Set up streaming

    Windy can post only in channels it is a member of. If Windy isn't in the channel, responses won't post.

  <Step title="Open the pulse and select Settings">
    Only owners with edit access can change streaming.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Edit Live response streaming">
    Turn on **Live response streaming enabled**, then choose a **Slack channel**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose threading and select Save">
    Leave **Group responses in a thread** on to keep responses together, or turn it off. See the next section.

  Everyone in the channel will see each person's name and full answers. Choose a channel with the right audience.

## What Windy posts

When the first response of a run arrives, Windy posts an announcement with a link to the pulse. The announcement shows a running count, such as "3/10 responded (30%)".

Each response shows the person's name and their answers.

If someone edits and submits again, Windy updates their message. If someone withdraws their response, Windy deletes the message and updates the count.

### Threaded or separate messages

| **Group responses in a thread** | Result |
| - | - |
| On (default) | Responses post as replies under the announcement. The channel stays tidy. |
| Off | Each response posts as a new message in the channel. Responses are easier to notice. |

    No. Streaming would show who gave each answer, so it's turned off for anonymous pulses. See [Anonymity and privacy](/features/pulse-surveys/anonymity-and-privacy).

    Yes. Ask Windy to stream responses to a channel when you create or update a named pulse. Windy must still be a member of that channel.
