# Pulse insights

> Read participation and question results for one run, or follow trends across runs.

The **Insights** tab turns pulse answers into charts. Use it to check participation, compare answers, and follow changes from run to run.

Insights appear after the first run is sent. Test runs are not included. They include only responses you are allowed to see. See [Response sharing](/features/pulse-surveys/response-sharing).

## Choose a view

* **By run:** Results for one run. Use **Choose a run** to pick the date.
* **Over time:** Results across all runs, shown as trends. This view is available once the pulse has more than one run.

Use **Search questions** to find a question quickly.

## Check participation

In **By run**, two cards appear at the top:

* **Response count:** How many people responded, out of everyone the run was sent to.
* **Response rate:** The percentage who responded.

Each card shows the change from the previous run. Select a card to see who responded.

In **Over time**, a **Responses** chart shows the response count for each run.

## Read results by question type

| Question type | Results |
| - | - |
| **Scale** | Distribution of answers and the **Average**. |
| **Rating** | Count for each rating and the **Average**. |
| **eNPS** | The eNPS score, with **Detractors** (0–6), **Passives** (7–8), and **Promoters** (9–10). |
| **Yes/No** | Count for each answer and the percentage who said **Yes**. |
| **Single Select** | Count for each option and total **Responses**. |
| **Multi-Select** | Count for each choice and the number of respondents. One person can pick several choices, so choice counts can add up to more than the respondent count. |
| **Text** | Number of **Responses**. |

Text questions show "Text insights are coming soon". To read text answers, select the response count, or open the [Responses tab](/features/pulse-surveys/responses-runs-and-exports).

A question added or removed between runs shows **Not asked in this run** for runs that didn't include it.

### Chart types

Use the chart controls on a question to switch views. Available charts depend on the question type:

* **Bar list:** Counts beside each answer label.
* **Distribution bar:** The share of answers in each category.
* **Column chart:** Counts across rating or scale values.
* **Graph:** The shape of the distribution.
* **Heatmap:** Counts for each option in a grid. Available for Single Select and Multi-Select questions.

Changing the chart changes only the display.

### Open the answers behind a chart

Select a bar, a count, or a value to open the answers behind it. The panel shows each answer with the person's name. On anonymous pulses, answers show as **Anonymous**.

## Filter and compare groups

Filter results by **Job title**, **Groups**, or **Reports under**, or use **Compare** to show groups side by side. See [Filter and compare results](/features/pulse-surveys/filter-and-compare-results).
