# Writing manually

> Write answers directly in the review form and use context to find examples.

## Write in the review form

You can write self, peer, upward, and manager reviews directly in Windmill. You can also edit answers that AutoDraft or Windy prepared.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the review">
    Open the cycle's **To do** page and select your assignment. If the start screen appears, select **Write on my own**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the question">
    Check the question, help text, answer choices, and word limit. For a peer review, also read the request's focus note, if present.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter your answer">
    Type in the answer field or select an answer choice. Use specific examples of the work, the action, and the result. Windmill saves your changes as drafts.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check and submit">
    Complete all required questions. Read each answer before you submit. If you changed a submitted review, select **Resubmit review** to update the submitted answers.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Refer to the context report while you write

You can refer to the **Context report** in the side panel while you write your answers. Use it to find examples from the review period. You can also open tabs such as **1:1s** when they appear.

For a manager review, submitted self, peer, and upward feedback can help you assess the work. With several peer or upward responses, use **Insights** for a combined view or **Responses** to read each response.

Context becomes part of your submitted review only when you use it in an answer. See [Windy and review context](/features/performance-reviews/windy-and-review-context).

## Get help with an answer

Use [Windy chat](/features/performance-reviews/windy-chat) to discuss an example or ask Windy to change an answer. Use [quick edits](/features/performance-reviews/fine-tune-a-review#use-quick-edits) to change existing text.

You can move between the form and Windy. Both use the same saved answers.
