# Set up peer nominations

> Configure peer nominations, approvals, limits, dates, and recommendations.

## Choose who can nominate peers

Add a peer feedback stage to use peer nominations. Nominations select the people who will give feedback about each reviewee assigned to that stage.

Choose who can create nominations:

* **Everyone:** Reviewees can nominate their own peers. Managers and cycle admins can also nominate peers for the people they manage.
* **Managers and cycle admins:** Managers and cycle admins select the peers.
* **Cycle admins only:** Only cycle admins select the peers.

Reviewers must be active employees and workspace members. They do not need to be reviewees in the cycle. A reviewee cannot nominate themselves, their direct manager, or their direct report.

## Choose whether nominations need approval

Under **Nomination approval**, choose one option:

* **No approval needed:** Windmill sends peer review requests as soon as the nomination is added.
* **Approval required:** Each nomination must be approved before Windmill sends the request.

## Set nomination limits

* **Minimum nominations:** A suggested minimum under **Nominations per employee**. A reviewee can have fewer nominations.
* **Maximum nominations:** Additional nominations need cycle-admin approval when they exceed this limit.
* **Reviewer workload:** Under **Requests before approval is required**, set how many requests one reviewer can receive before cycle-admin approval is required.

Windmill shows nomination counts and limit warnings. Windy also tells the person adding a nomination when approval is needed.

## Control revoking and visibility

* **Let managers revoke nominations:** Cycle admins can always revoke nominations. Turn on this setting to let the employee's manager revoke them too.
* **Show manager and cycle admin nominations to employees:** Let employees see the nominations that their manager or a cycle admin added for them.

These settings apply to every peer feedback stage in the cycle.

## Control nomination chats

* **Nomination chats:** When nominations open, Windy starts a chat with each person who can nominate peers. You cannot customize the nomination prompt.
* **Reminders:** Near the deadline, Windy can remind chat recipients who have no pending or approved nominations.
* **Skip peer nomination chats:** Select this on the peer stage before nominations open to collect nominations without Windy chats. People can still add nominations in Windmill.

## Set nomination and feedback dates

* **Separate windows:** Set one set of dates for nominations and another for feedback.
* **Nomination deadline:** This is a soft deadline. People who can nominate peers can still add nominations until the peer feedback deadline.
* **Feedback requests:** An approved nomination gets a feedback request after feedback opens and at least 15 minutes have passed since approval.
* **Deadline digest:** Deadline digest emails can include incomplete nominations and pending approvals.

## Reviewer recommendations

* **How Windmill suggests peers:** Suggestions come from collaboration scores for the previous 90 days.
* **Number of suggestions:** The dashboard shows up to seven suggestions. The Windy nomination chat can suggest up to 10. You cannot change these numbers.
* **Other reviewers:** Suggestions are optional. People can search the employee directory and choose another eligible reviewer.

## Change settings during the cycle

After you create the cycle, open the peer nominations stage from **Configure cycle > Overview** and select **Settings**. Select **Edit** next to a setting to change it. You can also change **Nomination chats** and the nomination schedule there.
