# Insights inside a manager review

> Analyze peer and upward feedback about one employee while you write their manager review.

Use the manager review's context panel to compare feedback about the employee. You can read question summaries and full responses without leaving the review.

## Open feedback Insights

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the manager review">
    Open your assigned manager review from the cycle's **To Do** page.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the feedback source">
    In the context panel, select **Peer reviews** or **Upward reviews**. These items appear when feedback is available.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select Insights">
    With more than one response, the panel opens in **Insights**. Select **Responses** to read the full feedback instead.
  </Step>
</Steps>

With one response, the panel shows that response directly. It does not show the Insights and Responses switch. With no feedback, there are no results to summarize.

## Read question results

Each question has its own result card. Rating and choice questions show counts and distributions. Text questions can show an AI summary when enough responses are available.

Select a chart group or a response count to inspect the answers behind it. See [Charts and text summaries](/features/performance-reviews/insight-charts-and-themes) for the available charts and summary thresholds.

This view is limited to feedback about the employee in the open manager review. It does not have the group and employee filters used in cycle Insights.

## Read full responses

Select **Responses**, then choose **By person** or **By question** to organize the feedback. Use this view to check the original wording before you write your assessment.

The **Self review** context item shows the employee's self review separately. It does not use the peer and upward Insights switch.

## Check access and summary limits

The manager-review page uses your access to that review and its feedback. Opening a chart does not give you access to another employee's reviews.

Peer and upward text summaries need answers from at least three different reviewers. Two responses can show charts even when a text summary is not yet available.

Select **Generate summary** to start text summaries. In this view, the first generation action starts summaries for all text questions in the selected feedback source. If answers later change, use **Refresh summary** when the page marks a summary as out of date.
