# Manage active-cycle changes

> Find the correct workflow when people, assignments, dates, or review data change during a cycle.

Use the cycle admin pages to manage an active cycle. Complete these changes before the cycle is completed or archived.

## Add an employee after launch

Select **Actions > Add participant** to add one or more active workspace members. Set their review period, manager, and applicable self, upward, and manager stages.

Work starts immediately if the stage has started and is still open. Otherwise, it stays scheduled. Extend a completed stage or past due date before adding work. Normal reminders and deadline digests apply.

See [Add or remove participants](/features/performance-reviews/add-or-remove-participants).

## Remove an employee from the cycle

You can remove a participant before or after submission. This archives reviews about them, along with related chats, sessions, sharing, and calibration membership. Reviews they write about other people remain active.

Archiving an account does not remove the person from the cycle. See [Add or remove participants](/features/performance-reviews/add-or-remove-participants).

## Change an employee's manager

The cycle keeps its saved manager when the org chart changes. Open the review in the manager stage's **To-dos**, then select **Reassign** in **To-do Details** to assign an active workspace member.

The old assignment is archived. You can transfer the former manager's submitted answers to the replacement. Otherwise, the replacement starts with an empty review. Reassigning back restores the former manager's answers.

See [Reassign managers and reviewers](/features/performance-reviews/reassign-managers-and-reviewers).

## Give another manager access

Reassignment changes the review owner and saved cycle manager. It does not give two people shared editing access.

An additional manager review is a separate review. The active-cycle pages do not provide a way to add another author to the primary review. See [manager access and reassignment](/features/performance-reviews/reassign-managers-and-reviewers).

## Handle leave or a departure

Cycles have no leave status. Work and reminders continue until an admin changes dates, removes work, or reassigns it.

Manager and upward work support reassignment. Self and peer work need different handling. Archiving an account prevents new assignments and review emails, but keeps saved cycle work.

See [Manage leave and departures](/features/performance-reviews/leave-and-departures).

## Change dates or questions

Moving a stage's start time before it starts also moves its due date. After work starts, schedule changes affect only work without an active chat. You can change deadlines for the stage or selected assignments without deleting answers.

Once review sessions exist, you can change wording and other limited settings. You cannot add or remove questions, change answer choices, or make an optional question required.

See [Change dates and questions](/features/performance-reviews/change-an-active-cycle).

## Handle overdue or incomplete work

Reviewers can submit late while the cycle is active. Use **Participants** or a stage's **To-dos** to find incomplete work and send nudges.

Extend the stage deadline before adding or reassigning late work. A manager-review lock prevents edits even when the deadline is open.

See [Reopen reviews and manage locks](/features/performance-reviews/reopen-reviews-and-locks).

## Correct submitted review data

Review owners can edit and resubmit while the cycle is active. A cycle admin must first unlock a locked manager review. Owners can also reset their answers or the full review.

Resubmitting a shared manager review updates what the employee sees. Changes to question wording also update drafts, submitted answers, calibration references, and shared packets.

See [Drafts, submissions, and missed deadlines](/features/performance-reviews/drafts-submissions-and-deadlines).

## Manage overlapping cycles

Each cycle has separate assignments, questions, context, packets, and calibrations. People can receive tasks and messages from several cycles. Completing one task does not update another cycle.

Change conflicting dates and assignments in each cycle separately. See [Run concurrent cycles](/features/performance-reviews/concurrent-cycles).
