# Cycle and stage insights

> Open cycle or stage Insights, filter employees, and read participation and question results.

Use cycle Insights to move between stages. Use a stage's Insights tab when you want to focus on that stage.

## Open cycle Insights

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the cycle">
    Go to [Review Cycles](https://app.gowindmill.com/COMPANY/performance) and open the cycle.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select Insights">
    As a cycle admin, open **Configure cycle > Insights**. Managers with assigned manager reviews can use the cycle's **Insights** tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose a stage">
    Use the stage selector to choose a self, peer, upward, or manager review stage. The manager stage is selected first when one exists.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Each stage has its own questions and results. If the cycle has several stages of the same type, select the stage you want to analyze.

## Open one stage's Insights

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open cycle configuration">
    Open the cycle and select **Configure cycle**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the review stage">
    Select the self, peer, upward, or manager review stage you want to analyze.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select Insights">
    Select the stage's **Insights** tab. The results are limited to that stage, so there is no cycle stage selector.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Peer nomination stages do not have question Insights. Open the peer feedback stage to analyze submitted peer answers.

## Filter the employees

Use filters for **Group**, **Job title**, **Manager**, **Start date**, or **Tenure** to narrow the reviewees. The participation totals, charts, response details, and text summaries use the selected stage and filters.

Filters use the cycle's saved reviewee list and reporting hierarchy. A later org chart change does not move employees into a different cycle hierarchy.

Cycle admins can analyze cycle results. Managers can analyze employees below them in the hierarchy saved for the cycle. They cannot use a filter to include themselves or employees outside that hierarchy.

## Read participation totals

| Total | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **Employees reviewed** | Different employees with at least one answer in the selected stage. |
| **Reviews submitted** | Submitted reviews. Peer and upward stages count each reviewer's submission. |
| **Completion rate** | Submitted reviews divided by expected reviews for the stage and filters. |

These totals describe participation. To find individual incomplete tasks or send reminders, use [Track progress and notifications](/features/performance-reviews/track-progress-and-notifications).

## Read question results

Below the totals, each question has a result card. Select a chart group or response count to examine the available answers. Use **Generate summary** for eligible text questions, or **Generate all** to generate missing summaries together.

See [Charts and text summaries](/features/performance-reviews/insight-charts-and-themes) for chart types, response thresholds, and target curves.

## Check results as work continues

Insights is available during and after the cycle. Draft answers do not appear as submitted results. A stage without submissions shows **No responses yet**.

When filters remove all submissions, broaden the filters or choose another stage. Manager results use the latest effective submitted answers, including applied or accepted calibration changes.
